Civil Disobedience Day!

Civil Disobedience Day Unauthorised Gardening!
Civil Disobedience Day is July 03 and as a Guerrilla Gardener I could not be more pleased!
Civil disobedience, also known as passive resistance, is the refusal to obey the laws of a government or those in charge. Its purpose is to force concessions in a non-violent way from a government (or from those in power) by protesting an issue, law, or cause. Civil disobedience does not reject the whole system, but works within the system to make a change, even though certain laws may be violated.
To be totally clear I am neither encouraging nor advocating for civil disobedience ( see my disclaimer)
…HOWEVER…it’s like this holiday was just made for GUERRILLA GARDENING ADVENTURES!
Here are 5 Guerrilla Garden Inspired Ideas to help you celebrate Civil Disobedience Day…
#1-Bombard your City or Town Officials Inboxes

Guerrilla Garden Inspired Success

Regularly send emails (daily if needed) about the need for new community gardens in your neighbourhood. Then encourage as many other people as possible to send emails requesting that more public spaces be allocated for community gardening purposes as well.
I personally believe that persistence, sheer volume and numbers of emails are the key to making this a successful campaign.
#2-Get your City Onboard with Edibles!
Not that kind!
Send an embarrassing number of emails to your city or town officials to get them onboard with incorporating edible landscaping into the city planning. This is your tax money being spent so the more taxpayers that you encourage to send emails the better…and you might just get a salad or a bowl of fruit out of it.

Note: taxpayer emails tend to be especially noticed during an election year…. just saying.

#3-Oppose Anti-Garden Strata Councils!
FYI-Strata Councils do not really make the rules, the people in the complex do when they vote at the AGM. So, it is in your best interest to make sure that gardens are added to the AGM agenda and make it a point to involve as many neighbours as you can in your gardening endeavours prior to voting. It is important that your neighbours feel like they have a vested interest.
Rumour has it that some strata councils and neighbours can even be bought off with jam and produce.
If your gardening ideas are still getting shot down, then it might just be time to consider idea #4 and actively “Take Back Your Green Spaces”
#4-Take up Guerrilla Gardening

…. because sometimes it is just easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission!

#5-Create a FREE SEED MAILBOX!

Fill up a mailbox with free packets of seeds so that potential Guerrilla Garden Suspects can then celebrate this holiday and improve their own neighbourhoods by using Civil Disobedience Day as a jumping off point.

And that is all I have to say about that.

A Guerrilla Gardening Revolution!
Happy Civil Disobedience Day!
