Chinese New Years always starts on the first day, of the New Year, that has a new moon. This year it falls on January 28 and it’s the Year of the Rooster.
In Chinese culture plants and flowers always hold a special significance. Certain plants are considered most auspicious and have special meanings. This is especially true during Chinese New Years when they are used for decorating and given as a gifts .

Just remember when it comes to Chinese New Years the most auspicious colors are red (for good fortune and happiness) and gold (for wealth).
Never gift anything white on Chinese New Years. White is considered an unlucky color and white flowers are especially associated with funerals.
